Tom Kite Commits To Greater Gwinnett Championship

Former U.S. Open champion Tom Kite has committed to play in the 2nd annual Greater Gwinnett Championship Presented by Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating, an Official Event on the PGA TOUR’s Champions Tour. The tournament will be played April 14-20, 2014 at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, GA.

greater gwinnettWorld Golf Hall of Fame member Kite (2004) won 19 times on the PGA TOUR including the 1992 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach where he battled 40 mile per hour winds in the final round to shoot an even par 72 and win by two strokes. Among his other titles were two Atlanta Golf Classics (1984 and 1992), The Players Championship (1989) and the Tour Championship (1989). Not surprisingly, in 1989 he was named PGA of America Player of the Year. Kite played on seven Ryder Cup teams and was the captain of the U.S. team in 1997. Throughout his career he was a virtual money-making machine and was the first in Tour history to reach $6 million, $7 million, $8 million, and $9 million in career earnings. He was the Tour’s leading money-winner in 1981 and 1989. Kite has also recorded 10 Champions Tour titles including one major, the 2000 Countrywide Tradition.

In addition to Kite, 80 other legends of golf will be competing for a total purse of $1.8 million and a first place check of $270,000 including the defending champion, Bernhard Langer.
