It’s Tournament Time !!

It’s here!! Around the state high school basketball teams are gearing up region tournaments. It’s the March On Macon, site of the state finals again this year. The final two weeks of the regular season were hectic for many teams around the metro area as the winter storm played havoc with schedules. There are some teams that played as many as 5 games over a period of 8 days just to complete the season. Now the second season begins, and the stakes are higher.”

When asked about tournament time Wesleyan girls coach Jan Azar said, ” That is special each year because these students work so hard all year long and now is the time they get to enjoy it. I’m excited to see what we are made of as a team, not individuals.

Kathy Walton is girls coach at Southwest Dekalb and also knows what it takes to win a state title. When asked about tournament time Walton replied, ” I like this time of year because it’s a fresh start and you can see how much improvement the team has made since the beginning of the year .”

Sure , there are the usual favorites like Norcross, Columbia, Wheeler, and Miller Grove, but there are also the surprises like Grayson. Coaches hope that this time of year brings out the best in their teams.

Miller Grove’s Sharman White sees it this way. ” I enjoy the fever-pitched intensity of survival. It’s competitiveness at it’s best. Nothing like it!!!

Let the second season begin..
