After ripping through the region and reaching the state final at Dome this past year, Carrollton football now has another reason to celebrate. Last week at the Carroll County Board of Education, eight Carrollton Trojan football players signed letters of intent to play at the collegiate level. All-American Defensive Tackle, Dontavius Russell, headlined the class signing with Auburn, after originally committing to UGA. To illustrate the depth of this Carrollton team, here are some of the other signings…
- Cole Cook, Tight End – NC State
- De’Antonie Cammons, Defensive Back – Carson-Newman
- Trey Chivers, Running Back – Kennesaw State
- Will Garrett, Quarterback – West Georgia
- Tyler Newsome, Punter – Notre Dame
- Jake Sanders, Offensive Guard – Duke
- Dontavius Russell, Defensive Tacke – Auburn
- Brandon Walton, Tight End – Appalachian State
Also in local news, West Georgia landed quarterback Will Garrett, who piloted the Trojans to their second place finish in the 4-A state title race. After the signings, I had the opportunity to ask him what factors went into his decision to come to UWG. “I think the family atmosphere, the facilities they have over there, and the new coaching staff are all really impressive,” said Garrett. Looking forward to his days as a West Georgia Wolf, Garrett expressed excitement to play for the new UWG head coach, Coach Hall.
“He’s a young and firey guy, he going to be bringing a lot of energy to practice and games, and with that people expect big things from him. So I know I want to play for a guy like him.” – Will Garrett
Within the past few months, West Georgia has secured their coach for the future, and just recently, potentially their quarterback for the future. The new additions show considerable promise for the University, and that the future is bright for West Georgia football.
