With the rain staying away the heat humidity kicked in at the BB&T Atlanta Open. Jack Sock moved into his 5th quarterfinal of the year with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Michael Venus. Sock, who teamed with Vasek Pospisil to take the Wimbledon Doubles title, credits that win with increased confidence in his game.” I feel that I am playing better this year, but Wimbledon has boosted it to a high degree”, said Sock.
Two weeks ago at Newport Sock surprised Atlanta’s defending champion John Isner, to gain a spot in the semifinals at the Hall of Fame. The win by Sock, now ranked 72nd, turned some heads around the tennis world. After today’s win Sock was strictly business, heading to the practice courts before coming to speak to the media. ” I went to hit some serves after the match”, said Sock. I hit a bucket, maybe half bucket of balls just to keep on rhythm for the next match.”
A win could send Sock into his second semifinal in as many tournaments, and another showdown with John Isner, should the top seed win his second round match against Robby Ginepri.
