Mill Creek Is ready To Make A Statement At Corky Kell Classic

The memories of 2013 have to be bittersweet for the Mill Creek Hawks. Shannon Jarvis’crew posted a 6-4 record but failed to make the playoffs thanks to playing in Region 7 AAAAAA, the home of two-time defending state champion Norcross.
The new season presents the Hawks with an opportunity to soar to the top of the region and go deep into the state playoffs, and it starts with a season opening meeting with Colquitt in the Metro PCS Corky Kell Kickoff Classic.

Last Friday Mill Creek tuned up for the showdown with the Packers with a scrimmage at Archer. The starters only played in the first quarter and Jarvis’reasons were simple. ” You just want to get them a good taste of it and get them off the field,” said the coach ,who was clearly looking ahead to Colquitt.
The 2014 Hawks have one of the top offensive lines in the state led by senior tackle Kaleb Kim, who is bound for Auburn, and Center Josh Fannin who is committed to Middle Tennessee State. Then there is quarterback Daniel David who will force opponents to pick their poison, but against Archer the duel-threat star was less than pleased. ” The quarterbacks were not live for the scrimmage,” says Jarvis. “David was screaming that he wanted the ball and I told him that he would get his chance next Saturday.”

When Daniel David is live, he leads an offense that averages close to 40 points per game. That got the attention of Colquitt Head Coach Rush Probst, who drove all the up from Moultrie to get a first hand look. Probst watched from the end of the field along side Norcross coach Keith Maloof, whose Blue Devils beat the Packers in the semifinals of last year’s state playoffs.

Mill Creek vs Colquitt County is set for an 11:45 AM Kickoff Saturday at Mceachern High School’s Walter H. Cantrell Stadium.
