Rockdale’s Candace Hill Smashes World Youth Record

It seems that wherever Candace Hill goes these days the records start to fall. It happened again this week at the IAAF World Youth Championships at Cali, Columbia. The Rockdale County High School rising junior broke the world youth record in the 200 meter run, on her way to winning two gold medals.

Hill’s 200 meter time of 22.43 topped her previous personal best of 23.05 at the GHSA track championships at Albany, Ga this spring. Candace also won the 100 meter run at Cali becoming the first American to sweep both sprint titles at the World Youth Championships.

Hill’s effort highlighted a day when team USA captured 6 medals, with 19 over all medals and 8 gold.

The Stockbridge native has had a magical spring, winning the state high school meet before becoming the first high school girl to break the 11 second barrier in the 100 meter at the Brooks PR Invitational in June.Candace topped off her spring by winning the Gatorade National Girl’s Track and Field Athlete Of The Year Award, joining Marion Jones as the only sophomores to win the award
