Georgia Tech’s Eubanks Gets Wild Card From BB&T Atlanta Open

What a week it has been for Georgia Tech junior tennis star Chris Eubanks. Just days after earning his second straight ACC Player Of The Year award, The Atlanta native received an special invitation to play in the main draw at the BB&T Atlanta Open this Summer. Eubanks while represent Georgia Tech on College Night,July 25, at Atlantic Station.

“These past 5 days have been really surreal”, says Eubanks . ” You always have these fantasies of the things that you would love to have happen. “To have it happen and actually come true is something I won’t forget for the rest of my life.”

Last year, Eubanks delighted the home town crowd by playing his way through a local pre-tournament qualifier, then winning two rounds of the tournament qualifier to earn a main draw spot at the BB&T. Eubanks, made a lasting impression on ATP tour officials and the United State Tennis Association that resulted in a wild card into the U.S. Open qualifier in New York, and a chance to practice with the U.S. Davis Cup team.

The Westlake High School grad represented Georgia Tech in the main draw in 2015 and played doubles with ATP Tour veteran and Atlanta resident Donald Young. The team of Eubanks and Young won first round and quarterfinal round matches before falling to the ATP Tour’s top ranked doubles team of Mike and Bob Bryan in the semifinals. It was an amazing week for Eubanks, playing on Stadium Court in front of the big hometown crowd. The BB&T Atlanta Open has been just as good for Eubanks as he has been for the tournament. “He represents what the student athlete is all about “, says BB&T Tournament Director Eddie Gonzalez. “You can not ask for a better representative of the city of Atlanta and Georgia Tech”.

The BB&T Atlanta Open returns to Atlantic Station July 22 – 30.
