It’s Showtime In Macon

This is it, the week that high school basketball fans around the state dream about the whole year. This is GHSA State Championship Week, and the top teams in the state have completed their March To Macon. Over the next three days boys and girls champions will be crowned in seven classes.

I guess at this point I should say something like ,”All roads lead to the Macon Coliseum”. Last year, I found that not to be true, when I got off on the wrong exit and was lost in Macon. I eventually found my way to the Macon Coliseum, just in time for the game that I was broadcasting with GPB Sports. I know, there is a big green sign on I-75 south that says MACON, and that I should just follow it.

The excitement begins with 4 games today. At 3pm the Turner County girls will take a 30-0 record into their A-Public final against Terrell County. That will be followed by the boys A-public final between region rivals Hancock Central and Wilkinson County. Wilkinson is Georgia basketball royalty, winning 7 state titles since 1999.

The evening games will be for class AAAA titles. The girls contest starts at 7 and will see Veterans make their first state final appearance against Americus-Sumpter. The boys final is set for 8:45 and will see Liberty County try and halt Jonesboro’s quest for a three-peat.

All of these games can be seen on GPB-TV and online at GPB.Org. I will be posting more updates here on 92.9TheGame.com.
