Dekalb vs Florida In High School Football Classic

The Battle Of The Borders high school football showdown will be back and bigger for 2014. This year’s event ,sponsored once again by Chick-fil-a, will feature 8 teams in 4 exciting games including 2013 National Champion Booker T. Washington High School from Miami, Florida. The battle for bragging rights will take place on Saturday September 30, at Hallford Stadium.

Last year a new Metro Atlanta area high school football tradition was born when Dekalb and Florida squared off in the 2013 Battle Of The Borders high school showdown. It was the M.L. King Lions beating Blanche Ely, and the Stephenson Jaguars topping Norland as Dekalb swept the visitors from the Sunshine State.

This year the gameday excitement with heightened by the addition of a Booker T. Washington team that finished the season undeafeated and ranked number 1 in both the Max Preps and USA Today High School Sports national polls. Miami Washington opened 2013 in the Metro Atlanta area beating Norcross 55-0 in Gwinnett.

For 2014 B.T. Washington draws the Tucker Tigers, whose 2013 season ended at the Georgia Dome,in the class AAAAA state championship game.

Miami Central will take on the Stephenson Jaguars.In 2013 Central won the Florida 5A crown while posting a record of 14-1 and earning a season ending national ranking of number 4 (Max Preps) and number 3 (USA Today).

Miami Norland came to Hallford Stadium last year and loss to Stephenson. For 2014, the 2011 Florida class 5A champions face the Martin Luther King, Jr. Lions.

The fourth team from Florida will be Tallahassee Godby. Godby won the Florida class 5A title in 2012 and posted a record of 10-2 in 2013. Godby will get to face one Georgia’s most successful high school football programs when the Marist War Eagles land on Memorial Drive. Last season Marist posted an 11-3 record after a heartbreaking 46-44 4 overtime loss to Carrollton in the class AAAA semifinals.
