When looking at area high school preseason schedules, the Peachtree Ridge schedule leaps off the page. The Lions live in Region 7-AAAAAA, with a final four games that are a Murder’s Row of North Gwinnett, Norcross, Collins Hill, and Mill Creek. Then you look at the front end of their schedule and you see Christ Presbyterian from Tennessee, last year’s state runner up Archer, and a McEachern team that looked to be on the fast track to the Georgia Dome in December. After starting 0-2, Mark Fleetwood’s crew threw a stingy defensive effort in a 9-6 win over the Indians last week. When asked about the victory Fleetwood reflected on a total team effort. ” We needed that,” said Fleetwood.”We had everybody back!!!”. This week The Ridge will host the suddenly streaking Mustangs of Meadowcreek, who have won their last 2 games.
Meanwhile on the other side of Gwinnett Grayson wins the battle of Region 8-AAAAAA titans with a late field goal against previously top ranked Archer. But there is no time for the Rams to let up as they face unbeaten Parkview this week. The Panthers are talented and 3-0 after a 48-9 thrashing of backyard rival Brookwood last Friday. Second year head coach Eric Godfree has pitched a tent and is holding a revival on Five Forks Trickum. A win over Grayson would bring more more believers on board for next Friday’s trip to Archer.
Elsewhere Walton rolled Etowah to remain unbeaten and will host East Cobb rival Wheeler this week. Don’t sleep on the Wildcats, who are 3-1 after beating Milton last week.Eagle’s Landing is 3-0 after an emotional win over Jonesboro . This week the Cardinals will face an Eastside team that beat Griffin last week. Jonesboro and Eastside will tangle at Twelve Oaks Stadium Thursday night.
Also this week, Newton hits the road for South Georgia and a meeting with Lowndes. Lowndes is 3-1 while the Newton Rams are 4-0 after a 27-7 win over Westlake. Pace Academy continues to roll. The Knights are 4-0 after hanging on for a 16-14 win over White County. This week Pace will visit Region rival Holy Innocents’. Creekside will take a 4-0 record across town to meet 2-1 Stephenson at Hallford Stadium in a game with will be televised by GPB.
