The coaches and administrators representing 4 middle Georgia high schools were all smiles as the entered they Drake Field House on their campus of Mercer University in Macon and for good reason. They were representing Houston County, Mary Persons, Lee County , and Jones County High Schools, the newest additions to the Metro PCS Corky Kell Kickoff Classic lineup .
Classic Executive Director, Dave Hunter, was happy to announce that the annual event will now feature 9 games over 3 days, and in 3 locations. ” The middle Georgia teams have wanted to get involved for some time, and we are happy that Mercer has provided us a way to do it,” says Hunter.
2016 will be the 25th year for the Corky Kell Classic, which annually signals the start of the high school football season in Georgia. Most of the teams that play in the Classic are from the metro Atlanta area , or South Georgia .The event has been played inside the Georgia Dome every year with the exception of 2014 when there was a scheduling conflict with the Atlanta Falcons.
