St. Pius X Catholic High School alumnus Gunnar Bentz ’14 clinched a spot on the 2016 United States Olympic Swim Team Monday night in Omaha. By finishing fifth in the 200-meter freestyle event, Bentz claimed a spot on the 4 x 200m freestyle relay team competing in August at the Rio Summer Olympic Games.
By the end of this week, Bentz, also a current member of the University of Georgia swim team, will have competed in five events at the Olympic Trials. On Sunday, he placed fourth in the 400m individual medley with a 4.13.72 time, and finished 15th in the 200m butterfly last night. Bentz will swim in two more events, the 200m IM on Thursday and the 100m butterfly on Friday.
