XL 212 partner with the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce to once again honor the Student-Athletes of the Month.
The Female Student-Athlete of the Month is Mary Claire Solomon a Senior Cross Country runner from Blessed Trinity Catholic High School.
For her career She is a 2 time State Champion in 3200m – 3 time region Champion in 3200 and 1600m – State Runner up in 1600m – State Runner up in 4x400m – She finished 3rd in the state in cross country – and led her team to a second place finish at state.
She is a 6 time school record holder for track and has a personal best time of 5:06 in the 1600m & 10:53 in the 3200m.
A member of Atlanta Track Club All-Metro cross country team, and she received a Scholarship to run Cross Country and Track at Georgia Tech
She was a member of the National Honors Society, National Art Honor Society, French Club, Titan Strings, and the St. Brigid Choir.
Graduated with a 3.96 GPA and had a 1480 on the SAT with a Perfect score on Critical Writing of 800.
Her Coach Ryan O’Sullivan says “Mary Claire is a unique student athlete in such an individualized sport such as track, she has found a way to make it more about the team than about her. She is the kind person who makes
everyone better people, not just better athletes. People always talk about how coaches affect their athletes, but rarely do they talk about how athletes affect their coaches. Mary Claire has made a lasting impact on me and the program that she has led for the last 4 years.”
The Male Student-Athlete of the Month is Griffin Goggans a Senior Lacrosse Player from Johns Creek High School.
He was on the Honor Roll every semester in high school, A Scholar Athlete all four years, He was a member of the National Honors Society, National ART Society, National Spanish Society, & the Beta Club. He Graduated with a 96.6 GPA and will be attending Georgia Tech this fall.
On the field he was Captain of the Lacrosse Team for the 2016 season. He Led the team this season with a Total of 57 Pts. – 46 Goals (31 of those against playoff teams) 11 Assists, 30 Ground Ball’s.
Coach Joey Matthews has this to say about his Athlete. “Griffin is a very positive player who leads by example, he believes in service before self, which makes him one of the most unselfish players to play the game. He is the coach on the field who is constantly encouraging his teammates to be the best they can be. A true leader in every aspect mental, physical ,and spiritual. And most of all he is just a wonderful person!
This award recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of deserving Student-Athletes in the greater North Fulton area.
