While the time of the Atlanta race my matter to some of the fans and drivers, you won’t hear a complaint from your 2015 Daytona 500 Champion. Joey Logano may be a New England native, but spent enough time at Atlanta Motor Speedway during his formative years to consider it his home. Joey’s family moved the Georgia to start racing in AMS’s Legends Series and by the time he was 12 Legano won the Pro Legends National Championship.

When car #22 rolls from the AMS garage this week all eyes will be on the 24 year old Logano and Atlanta race organizers will be beaming with pride. ” With him growing up racing here, he is part of the family,” says Atlanta Motor Speedway President Ed Clark.” I picked him to win the (Sprint Cup) Championship this year and so far he is making me look good”

This year’s edition of “The Great American Race” was built as the kickoff to Jeff Gordon farewell season as a full time driver, and the driver of car 24 led 87 laps, more than any one else. As the race headed for it’s finish, Gordon found himself caught in a multi car crash. Logano seized the moment and was out front after a strong restart when a final lap caution flag froze the order on the track.

Now Logano comes to visit an old friend that owes him one. Joey has no wins in 8 Sprint Cup starts at Atlanta. His best finish was second place in 2013, when Logano led 78 laps in a race that Kyle Busch won. ” He should have won that race,” says Clark.” AMS has gone from being one of Joey’s worst places to one of his favorite places.”

Joey Logano will be poised for a happy homecoming as NASCAR will have it’s own version of March Madness during the Folds of Honor QuickTrip 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. For ticket information go to www.Atlantamotorspeedway.com
